Meet Rosavetta

“My name is Rosavetta Jackson; I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. However, I moved to Gwinnett County when I was 10 and have been here since. I attended the Georgia School for the Deaf during my high school years and completed my senior year at Phoenix High School in Lawrenceville, Georgia. Ever since I graduated from high school in 2003, I have been chasing my long life dream of being part of the medical field and being able to explore every aspect of it. I plan to graduate with a degree in Nursing and hopefully work with children someday.
I come from a very open-minded and educated family. Both of my parents were born deaf. My father’s side of the family has a few deaf relatives and is African-American. My mother’s side has a very strong blooded Argentinean and Mexican line with four generations of deafness. My brother is a 25 year old aviation mechanic and my younger sister is an honor roll student turning 17. They are the biggest part of me. My family’s diverse background makes me who I am today. I see the world from so many perspectives: deaf and hearing; black and white; Latinos and Black. It is a very neutral feeling. Life is very precious to me; every moment should be cherished, especially when you are missing a sense.
Deaf community plays a major role in my future as well as the hearing community. Being able to participate in both worlds helps me understand every perspective. As for this show, “Inside with Miss Jackson,” I find this a great opportunity to break the eggshell between both worlds.”
